After her
Translated by Simon Scardifield
A girl looking for a woman. She doesn't know why she needs to find her, exactly. She'll find out along the way. Among her late father's belongings, she finds the woman's bag. She stalks her on social media, and sets off to meet her, moving from city to city, and one country to the next. Along the way, she meets women who share her name but not her past, women from across the social spectrum, women who bring her face to face with her own wounds and entrenchments. With each encounter, she moves around, she discovers more of herself, and her true self is revealed. On the other side of the world, another, older woman, works through her past and loneliness. When night falls, she chats to strangers online. She talks to escape herself, she talks to forget. She talks to fill in her cracks. Just like the girl, this journey sheds light onto the dark sides of her being, stories handed down from generation to generation, buried secrets. Is this the woman the girl seeks? Will they ever meet? What binds them together? What keeps them apart? Why do we run? Why do we stay? How do we grow? And how do we heal?
